Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Abraham
Maslow was a pioneering 20th-century psychologist whose "hierarchy of
needs" theory is still widely used today. Motivation theories are
important because they serve as the foundation for modern management theories
and are still used by many practicing managers Maslow's defining work was the
creation of the hierarchy of needs
The
way Maslow's theory is explained, according to Lake
( 2000) is based on the fact that people want to achieve more in life,
and their needs are prioritized according to their importance. Maslow developed
a five-stage theory (Illustrated in figure 3.0) in which he categorizes and
prioritizes an individual's needs
Figure 3.0 - Maslow’s
Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow’s Hierarchy of
Needs theory
Physiological needs are at the bottom of
the hierarchy. These requirements are primarily met by adequate wages, as well
as the work environment itself, which includes a restroom, proper lighting, and
comfortable ventilation for the employees.
Next are the security
needs for a secure physical and emotional environment. Managers should
provide job security, insurance, and retirement benefit packages to employees
in the workplace. In order to feel that family is secure in society. These
needs can be satisfied in the workplace by job continuity.
In the final level of
self-actualization, more intrinsic level managers can provide challenging job
assignments and opportunities for the employees to feel a sense of success. One
of the pieces of advice was for managers to find ways of motivating employees
by devising programs or practices aimed at satisfying emerging or unmet needs

I agree with you and your post is proved by the following reference.
ReplyDeleteThis idea is that when both the organization and employees must make decisions about the performance of the organization, and when employees do their best in the services of the organization, culture and personnel practices are also evaluated by the organization's needs (Varma, 2017). As a result, HR must create an organizational environment and promote an organizational culture that takes current needs into account
Hi Chamara, agreed with your point. Further to add on your point Maslow starts with the idea that people always want something, and what they want is defined by what they already have Lake ( 2000).
DeleteHello Thanuja, I agree with your post. Jerome, N. (2013) stated that Maslow’s theory is paramount for success and excellence of Organisations to achieve excellence, create good atmosphere and better work environment and to achieve targets at the right time.
ReplyDeleteHi Nilushi agreed with your comment. To add to your point requirements are primarily met by adequate wages, as well as the work environment itself, which includes a restroom, proper lighting, and comfortable ventilation for the employees. (Ricky W. Griffin, 2007)
DeleteI agree with the above points thanuja and would like to mention that Maslow (1943) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulifil the next one, and so onIy would like consider about the drawbacks of this theory. From a scientific perspective there are numerous problems with this particular approach.
ReplyDeleteHi Thanuja. Agreed. Further, Maslow noticed that, based on the individual differences and external environment circumstances, the order of needs might be flexible like for example, for some individuals, esteem need might be more important than the love and belonging need while for some others it may be the other way round (Mcleod, 2018).
